History for Francis F. Adkins
Francis
F. Adkins (1810-1888)
We know very little about Francis
"Frank" Adkins, other than he was born in Chesterfield County,
Virginia and came west to Missouri with the family in 1819. He never married. It
was found that he was living in Kirksville, Missouri in 1857, and was living
with his brother James A. (and sister-in-law Susan Ann Kirk) Adkins in 1858.
He came west in the 1865 wagon train
with the Adkins and Kirk families to Oregon. His niece Josie Rhea Jones reported
that he lived with his niece and nephew Margaret "Maggie" Caroline
Adkins and her husband Willis Ebenezer McKinney in Morrow County. Frank Adkins
was listed in the Census of 1880 of Morrow County age 70, and as a farmer.
On November 2 1881 Maggie McKinney
died; Willis McKinney gave up farming in the Eight-Mile area of Morrow County,
and took his young son Curtis back to Randolph County, Missouri.
The Heppner Gazette, in
reporting the death of John R. Adkins, in Kirksville, Missouri added "It is
a rather peculiar coincidence when we note the fact that his brother Uncle Frank
Adkins died on the same day" [October 10th, 1888] "at the home of his
nephew, Jas. [Jesse James] Adkins on Rhea Creek" after a few day's illness.
